The 2009 Alpine Rally has attracted a full field of 113 cars in what is set to be a hotly contested event over three days, from November 13-15.

Heading the list is 2007 Alpine Rally winner Darryn Snooks (Datsun Stanza), but he is sure to be pushed hard by a host of Australia’s best rally drivers, including Geoff Portman, Brad Goldsbrough, Wayne Bell, Jack Monkhouse and Paul Batten.

Portman won the 2005 Alpine Rally in a Commodore, and returns in the big Holden, hoping to win again. Former Holden factory driver and Hyundai WRC driver, Wayne Bell, will drive a Fiat 131 Abarth replica.

Held every two years, the Alpine Rally is restricted to two-wheel drive, normally aspirated cars, with the Datsun marque being easily the most popular in the event.

The event starts with a two stage prologue on Friday afternoon, November 13, to determine the starting order for the following two days.

Based at Lakes Entrance on the Victorian coast, the event is conducted by the Historic Rally Association.
