Mt Porepunkah Win
A strong performance by Paul and Craig has seen them take victory in the latest round of the Rallydrive Excel Series, and turn some heads in the process with their outright speed in the Hyundai Excel.
The event consisted of a stage uphill to the summit of Mt Porepunkah, followed by a stage back downhill on the other side of the mountain. The stages were also run in reverse.
The team finished a credible 14 th outright, in a strong field which featured some ARC cars. The uphill stages proved to be the twin cam Excels weakness, where the downhill stages really showed the cars and teams potential. The team recorded an amazing 5 th outright downhill stage time behind ARC regulars, and in front of the current state champion Justin Dowel.
Interestingly if you split the rally in two the team would have come 17 th uphill and 8 th downhill, really highlighting the power difference between an excel series car and many of the teams opposition.
“We had a great time at Mt Porepunkah. I made some changes with the cars suspension setup before the rally and during the days services which definitely went in the right direction. The car felt comfortable to drive even although it was really hard work without power steering on the tight roads. The day definitely helped me commit more to my pace-notes but there is still work to do”. Said Paul.
